THE RIGHT TWIG
Young playwrights’ programme with Fighting Words Belfast and the Lyric Theatre
THE RIGHT TWIG will gave young people in Belfast (ages 14-18) the chance to create their own short play, and to collaborate with professional directors and actors to bring it to life. The workshops were free and open to anyone who wanted to learn from professionals about writing for theatre & creating new performances.
Participants took part in a series of 10 free workshops, learning about theatre straight from writers, directors, performers, designers, dramaturgs, and other creative professionals. In-depth drama and writing sessions supported each writer as they developed a new play.
These brand-new theatre pieces were performed on Monday 9th March 2020 at the Lyric Theatre, as part of the 22nd Belfast Children’s Festival. This free showcase revealed the wild imagination and weeks of hard work the writers put in, with professional directors and actors giving voice to fresh characters and stories.
