On Stage at the Lyric

Powerful, hilarious, devastating, fierce, romantic, hopeful: For the Spring 2022 Young Playwrights project, we handed the Lyric Theatre’s Naughton Studio over to 8 young writers for one night in May, and their plays brought all the emotions. All of them.

YOUNG PLAYWRIGHTS: ON STAGE AT THE LYRIC gave these young people (ages 14-18) workshops on ins and outs of playwriting, plus time and space to create and develop their own original short play. They worked alongside professional directors, dramaturgs, actors and sound designers to bring their scripts to the stage for a public showcase. Never predictable, always fizzing with humour and intelligence: Watch and read these performances crafted by NI’s newest playwrights, covering themes of love, war, myth, comedy, mystery, addiction, peer support, racism, homophobia, religion, gender identity - y'know, nothing too giant or anything... Let their wise humour and total bravery inspire you.
