Job Opportunity: Fighting Words NI is recruiting a Community Engagement Officer

In response to the recent expansion of our creative writing programme on-line, reaching children and young people all across Northern Ireland, and engaging with new partners and projects, Fighting Words Northern Ireland is recruiting a Community Engagement Officer.

Supported by the Tomar Trust and the Department of Foreign Affairs, Fighting Words NI seeks a Community Engagement Officer to co-ordinate Writing the Future: an exciting creative-engagement project working with young people across the region.

The Community Engagement Officer will be responsible for developing the concept and overseeing the delivery of this new education and arts participation strand of Fighting Words NI’s programme, to connect the creative, sporting and other interests of young people beyond the classroom. The postholder will engage with children and young people ages 6-18 years, and their wider communities, to create new opportunities for creative writing participation, as well as stakeholders and funders to develop new and existing partnerships.

Who are Fighting Words Northern Ireland?

Fighting Words Northern Ireland is a creative writing network for children and young people. Since 2015 we have been a force for creativity in NI, providing over 10,000 creative writing opportunities for schools and young writers ages 6-18, free of charge. We’ve run hundreds of story-making workshops for classes, writing clubs, and special projects – all supported by our amazing volunteer mentors. Our patrons are Glenn Patterson, Roddy Doyle, Lucy Caldwell, Nick Hornby, Paul Muldoon and Dave Eggers.

Our vision is for every young person here to have an opportunity to discover and harness the power of their own imaginations by enabling them to enjoy a range of creative writing experiences that will grow their self-confidence, develop their attitudes and understandings, and build their communications and analytical skills.

If you want to join a growing team of nimble creative thinkers that is having a positive impact with young people every day, find out more about the role and how to apply by viewing the full application pack, including job description and person specification. Deadline for receipt of applications is: 12 noon on Tuesday 8th June 2021.
